Healthy hair growth starts with a healthy scalp. A healthy scalp starts with healthy blood circulation and air. Without air, your body cannot benefit from oxygen which is an essential compound in your body's biochemistry. The principle of tension applies to the act of pulling and parting the hair (gently) and pressing the scalp (massaging) to increase blood circulation. Both pulling and pressing can help with air and blood circulation on your scalp.
Too much pulling can lead to scalp injury. The injury can cause inflammation, your body's immune response being activated. Inflammation can lead to less blood circulation to the scalp. Areas of your head that have little to no blood circulation always lose hair.
Too much pressing on the head like headbands, tight wigs, tight scarfs. All these components can cut off air to the scalp which is another way of cutting off blood circulation. This leads to hair loss. Your hair follicles cannot be supported without blood circulation and the principle of tension addresses this.
Types of Tension
Gentle pulling, parting on the scalp Description: the act of parting hair for styling, pulling hair into a style, or even smoothing product into the hair. All these methods pull at your scalp and can increase blood circulation. |
|
Stretching hair strands Description: this involves stretching your hair from its original curl state. Stretching the hair can be as simple as a ponytail, to braids, twists, blowout, threading, or locs. Stretching the hair keeps hair from tangling. |
|
Scalp Massages Description: pressing fingers or using tools to massage your scalp. This increases blood circulation to your scalp. |
